BOONE, N.C. — The Sun Belt has been dominated by teams like Coastal Carolina, South Alabama, Troy and Louisiana the past few seasons, but some other teams are starting to make headway in the conference.Texas State (18-10, 6-3) and Appalachian State (11-15, 4-5) faced off in Boone this weekend with both sitting at third place in their respective divisions. Despite their similar standings in the conference, these teams are built very differently. 

RALEIGH, N.C. — NC State was rocking its throwback 1974 jerseys Friday afternoon, a tribute to the team that finished 30-1 and won the ACC title that season. Maybe this year’s team will give the ’74 Wolfpack a run for its money.

The North Carolina gymnastics team took to the floor at Carmichael Arena on Friday night with plenty of confidence.

With a near full crowd in the arena, the Tar Heels hoped to lock in early and open the season with an upset victory over rival No. 21 N.C. State.

North Carolina women’s basketball coach Sylvia Hatchell’s career has marked over four decades of excellence, obstacles and hard work.

From her first win as a head coach at Francis Marion in 1976 to her now 32-year tenure at UNC, Hatchell has instilled a winning culture for every team she has coached. The constant hard work payed off on Tuesday afternoon in Myrtle Beach, S.C., as the Tar Heels faced off against struggling Grambling State (3-6).

Adversity is test many teams often face, and that is the case for the North Carolina volleyball team. The Tar Heels have suffered key injuries for what seems to be the entire season.

However, with a chance at an NCAA Tournament appearance on the line, the team continues to push through every game with a new lineup of healthy players each week.

The lights were bright and the stands were packed Friday night at the Smith Center, but it wasn’t for the men’s basketball team, which usually takes the court.

It was the volleyball team locked in for an ACC matchup against Virginia Tech, looking to right its season before Late Night With Roy.
